#9 TCU 28
Southern Miss QB Jeff Kelly threaded a 29-yard touchdown pass to freshman Kenny Johnson with eight seconds left to break a 21-21 tie.
The touchdown lifted Southern Miss to a 28-21 victory over Texas Christian (No. 16 ESPN/USA Today, No. 13 AP) in the Mobile Alabama Bowl

The Eagle defense held All-American, and Heisman Trophy finalist,  LaDanian Tomlinson to his lowest rushing total of the season.
USM ended TCU's BCS dreams. Southern Miss dominated the first three quarters helped by three Dustin Almond touchdown passes including a 50-yard strike to Daron Lawrence. In the fourth-quarter, the Horned Frogs scored, then recovered an two consecutive onside kicks, each converted into a touchdown.  The Horned Frogs had the ball late with a chance to drive for the lead, but Greg Brooks sacked Hassell and forced a fumble which turned into Anthony Harris' second one-yard score of the game and the Conference USA title.

Jeff Kelly, in his final game at USM, threw three second-half interceptions in TCU's territory.
The final one came with 33 seconds remaining in the game with the Golden Eagles driving.  The Eagles were on the TCU 32 (second-and-5) when Kelly's wobbly pass sailed high over the middle and hit TCU's Kenneth Hilliard in the chest. Hilliard bobbled the ball before catching it while lying on his back at the 14 yard line.

The win sealed TCU's invitation to the Houston GalleryFurniture.com Bowl
